Antioch Controlled Burn Surprises East County Residents

At around 10:00 am Wednesday morning, East Contra Costa County residents were in for a surprise as a giant cloud of smoke shot up into the sky. It caught many off guard, however, it was part of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District efforts to prevent larger incidents later this summer.

This was part of a series of controlled burns that will take place Wednesday through Friday in undeveloped property located near Canada Valley and Vista Grande roads. Today’s fire was just off Canada Valley.  The fires also are a form of training to the districts firefighters.

On a side note, today’s controlled burn looked smooth as crews kept it under control and the fire stopped where it should have stopped. Kudos on a good burn!

Here are some photographs that we shot:

this fire scared the hell out of me as it was near by home. Next time, so notice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank God the wind died down. I know they had looked at the forecast and it said the wind would die down. Good job! All these grassy fields are so dangerous now that we have built everywhere.

Hooray to the Park district voting 6-0 to buy the Roddy property. No more houses!!
