The Antioch City Council will look to adopt a resolution during Tuesdays council meeting that encourages the City of Antioch elected officials to voluntarily agree to an irrevocable 10% reduction in their salaries and a $100 a month decrease in their automobile allowance for fiscal year 2014-15.

The reduction would apply to the Mayor, City Council, City Treasure and City Clerk which would save the city more than $6,900.

According to the Staff Report, the salaries for the Antioch City Council was last increased in 2006 and was set to $941.20 per month which went into effect January 1, 2007.

The Staff Report also explained State Law and how those on the City Council cannot vote themselves a pay raise or decrease during their current term of office—it would apply to the next term. In response, Antioch decided in August of 2009 to adopted a resolution encouraging a 10% reduction in salary in commensurate with the current furlough/salary decrease for City employees, as well as a $100 monthly decrease in automobile allowance for elected officials per Council direction.

This is something they have done in the past crunch and of course should continue as long as the city is in this bankrupt situation….which will never end with the 106 million in unfunded liabilities. They didn’t cause all of it of course but sure have contributed to it simply by ignoring it.
