On February 6, 2021, at approximately 6:31 pm, APD Officers responded to the 2400 block of E. 18th Street on a report of a juvenile that was hit by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers learned the 15-year-old male was riding a non-registered dirt bike eastbound on E. 18thStreet when he was struck by a pickup truck. Per witnesses on scene, the pickup truck was described as a brown, 1990s Chevrolet.
The unknown driver of the truck did not stop and fled the scene, continuing eastbound on E. 18th Street. No suspects have been identified at this time.
The juvenile was transported to a local Bay Area hospital, with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

There are kids riding these unregistered small bikes all the time. They speed thru the streets make noise and there was bound to be an accident. The police don’t do anything about this. Now I bet the parents will sue someone for hitting they’re precious, non law abiding kid
I hope the young man makes a full recovery and that driver should be caught and convicted. But yes, one has to wonder about parenting. I have seen kids as young as five or six years old operating motorized bikes and mini-ATVs on public streets. It’s a wonder this doesn’t happen more often. Whats wrong with these parents?

What kind of employment do 15 year old have to earn enough money for an off road dirt bike? Of course, I know the answer to that rhetorical question- they don’t. Some adult is fronting the cash for a likely vehicle code misdemeanor or felony. Suspend their adult’s drivers’ license if the dirt bike is registered to them.
I had just seen these two kids on east 18th going east at a high speed with no lights on the dirt bikes and you couldn’t see them too good because of it being dark. I’ve seen them several times cutting of motorists and even going through the red lights on east 18th and A streets. This was bound to happen sooner or later that someone was going to get badly injured or worse. But yet a ANTIOCH councilwoman bad mouthed our police dept because her son and his friends were caught doing the same thing. She needs to be fired and our APD given a medal for all that they do to try to keep our streets safe.

These kids are all over the place. They pay zero attention to traffic laws and stop signs. They zip in and out of traffic and come out of nowhere. They run up and down the neighborhoods and the constant droning of their engines is a major source of noise pollution. But if APD, or anyone else, complains, the response is like the council member who thinks their kid is being “profiled”. Instead of being good neighbors and acting out of consideration of their neighbors they get a free pass to be knuckleheads
The cops tried to do something and that excon that likes to set apartments on fire in the middle of the night with families in them a sleep council persons kids were out riding theirs around and then ran from the police she went on a rant and our
GREAT (sarcasm) mayor backed her saying how dare the police do their jobs and try to them. She claimed it was a racist act by a black cop. She kept saying you don’t know who I am. I will organize and tare this city down.

THANK GOD FOR A 12 YEAR OLD BOY THAT SAVED EVERYONE BY WAKING THEM AND GETTING THEM OUT!
If this kid is the off spring of that city council person, or any other parent for that matter, someone needs to call Child Protective Services and file a report. No parent should be allowing an unlicensed child to ride a vehicle that is illegal on city streets, thereby endangering the public and the child. Child neglect and/or unsupervised juvenile.
