Alameda County DA Announces Murder Charges in Dublin Double Homicide

OAKLAND, CA — The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office announces that Devin Williams Jr, an Alameda County Sheriff’s Office deputy, has been charged with two counts of murder.

On Wednesday, September 7, 2022, around 12:45 a.m., Dublin Police Services responded to a call of two subjects that had been shot inside a residence on the 3100 block of Colebrook Lane. The two people, a husband and wife, suffered from gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses identified the shooter as Defendant Williams, 24.

Defendant Williams fled the scene but ultimately called Dublin Police to surrender himself later that day. He was taken into custody around 12 p.m. in Coalinga by the California Highway Patrol with aide from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

“Our hearts and condolences go out to the family, friends and community of the two victims killed in this incident,” said DA O’Malley.

Defendant Williams has been charged with two counts of Penal Code 187(a), murder, with an enhancement Penal Code 12022.53(d), intentional discharge of a firearm causing death, and two special circumstances, PC 190.2(a)(3), a multiple murder special circumstance and PC 190.2(a)(5), a murder to avoid arrest special circumstance.

His arraignment is expected to occur today at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin, Department 702.

Please note that the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office will not be making further statements as this is now a pending case.


12:06 PM UPDATE: Williams in Custody

During a press conference, authorities said Williams had been taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol after the suspect called in wanting to turn himself in. He had been taken into custody near exit 337 just minutes before the press conference.  The firearm was discarded on the Altamont Pass area and that Williams said he had no other weapons on him. He knew the couple in the home and a third person was also in the home at the time of the shooting.

It was stated that Williams was a police academy graduate, but he did not pass his probation in Stockton, it was more of his ability and skill-set, they let him ago, applied for ALCO Sheriff, did a background check including a psychology test. They did not see anything in his background. They called his background “immaculate”. Victims had no connection to law enforcement, female victim is 42 years old and husband is approx. 58-years old.

A total of 6 people were in the home at the time of the shooting, 2 who were killed.

2:00 pm UPDATE Update on Homicide Investigation

On Wed. Sept. 7 just before 12:00 pm, homicide suspect Devin Williams Jr was safely taken into custody in Coalinga, California area with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol and Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. Dublin Police would like to thank our outside allied agencies for all the assistance to bring this tragic incident to a conclusion. Williams Jr will be booked into the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on homicide charges. Dublin Police sends their deepest condolences to the victims families and friends during this very difficult time.
