On Wednesday afternoon at about 2:30pm, CHP Contra Costa was informed that Pittsburgh Police Department was pursuing an occupied stolen vehicle (white Hyundai Elantra) traveling westbound on SR-4 and approaching Martinez.
CHP monitored the broadcast and was able to get into position and take over the pursuit at SR-4 and I-80.
A CHP motorcycle officer was able keep pace with the evading Hyundai traveling at speeds over 100 mph. The Hyundai collided into two separate vehicles on I-80 westbound and then exited at Cutting Blvd, where he hit another vehicle which disabled the Hyundai. The driver jumped out and began running away but the officer was right on his heels and quickly took him into custody without further incident.
The driver, 23 yr old Rashad Albert of Oakland, is being charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and evading police and will be booked into the county jail. Thankfully nobody was seriously injured.
