Thursday afternoon, a procession for Hayward Police Sgt. Scott Lunger began at Oracle Arena in Oakland and made its way through Brentwood where a community of supporters waited.
Upon arrival, the procession was greeted by thousands of people who wanted to show support to Sgt. Lunger, his family and law enforcement by saying thank you, waiving American flags and saluting.
Sgt. Lunger was a 48-year-old Brentwood resident who died in the line of duty on July 22 where he was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Hayward. Lunger, was a 15-year veteran of the Hayward Police Department.
