Locally, the Antioch location at the Somersville Towne Center Mall will remain open, however, 11 other California locations will close including in Walnut Creek (Walnut Creek Ignacio Center, 2033 N Main St). In total, 134 clubs across 14 states will close permanently.

In mid-march, all 24 Hour Fitness locations closed due to the pandemic. It is anticipated that on July 1, the Antioch location will reopen.

  • Richmond – 2126 Hilltop Mall Rd
  • San Ramon – 4450 Norris Canyon Road
  • Walnut CreekSuperSport Gym, 2800 N. Main St

According to 24 Hour Fitness, removing these financial and operational constraints allows them to focus entirely on transforming our business and the club experience for the better. They say they will have the financial flexibility and resources to upgrade equipment and expand and improve our fitness offerings to best serve our members and continue our transformational journey.

“If it were not for COVID-19 and its devastating effects, we would not be filing for Chapter 11. With that said, we intend to use the process to strengthen the future of 24 Hour Fitness for our team and club members, as well as our stakeholders,” said Chief Executive Officer Tony Ueber. “We expect to have substantial financing with a path to restructuring our balance sheet and operations to ensure a resilient future. The COVID-19 environment has proved that attention to health and fitness are more important now than ever before. As a result of this restructuring, we will gain financial strength and flexibility to accelerate our business transformation plan, which includes reinvestment in our existing clubs, opening new clubs and introducing several new innovative products and services that will enhance the fitness experience for our club members and guests for many years to come.”

Ueber continued, “I want to thank our team members for their unwavering commitment and our club members for their continued loyalty during such an unprecedented period in our lifetime and company history.”

I was a member of 24 for several years. There service constantly slid lower and lower. Local management could care less about customers. Repairs on machines were little to none. At one point they restricted only certain channels for news and banned other public news channels. I hope they do not try to blame it on the virus. They were rolling in dough. I will not go back as they could care less about their clientele. They alienated me. That’s my review. I recommend almost anyplace else.

Wondering what the status is for that new location under construction on Lone Tree and Jeffery, near Highway 4.
