Updated: Brentwood Measure B Likely to Pass

by ECT

Brentwood Union School District’s Measure B appears to be headed to victory as updated election results on Friday show 56.48% support.

According to County Elections, 7,181 votes have been cast as “yes” versus 5,533 (43.52%) who said “no”.  The measure needs 55% support to pass.

In a statement by the school district on Friday, Superintendent Dana Eaton thanks the voters for support while announcing they were confident the measure will now pass, however, they are still waiting on certification of the election results.

Here is a copy of the statement:

The Brentwood Union School District is extremely grateful to the voters for passing Measure B.  These critical funds for facilities will benefit our students, families and community as a whole for many years to come.  The school district is very appreciative of the many committee members, staff, parent and community volunteers who supported Measure B and donated countless hours to this effort.

The next steps require the election results being certified by Contra Costa County and presented to the District. The Board of Education, in partnership with staff, will work together with the community to develop a project prioritization list and a timeline for funding and completing those projects.

There are many projects that will be prioritized including:

  • Update School Libraries for 21st Century Learning
  • Modernize science lab equipment
  • Update classroom computers and technology
  • Upgrade smoke detectors, fire alarms, sprinklers, communication systems and other security systems
  • Provide All Access Play Structures with solid fall surfaces and shade to improve safety at all Elementary Schools
  • Build a New Elementary School needed to reduce overcrowding
  • Upgrade or add Performing Arts Centers and Running Tracks at all district middle schools
  • Upgrade classrooms and other facilities to improve energy efficiency and reduce utility costs.
  • Many more school specific projects by site

Upon certification, The Brentwood School District will also be seeking applicants to participate on the Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee that will monitor and report to the community on all bond expenditures. The oversight committee, composed of local residents, will ensure that all bond funds are spent as planned for the benefit of local elementary and middle school students.  The district will continue to be transparent in providing regular updates to the community to report how bond money is being spent and the progress that is being made on the various district facility projects.

The Brentwood Union School District will work tirelessly to ensure that every dollar will be spent responsibly, ethically and prudently, in a transparent way that brings the greatest benefit to our students and schools.  We look forward to continuing our great partnership with our community.  Again, the school district is deeply appreciative of the community’s continued support.
