Brentwood City Council Announces New City Manager

BRENTWOOD, CA – At its regular City Council meeting of December 23, 2014, the Brentwood City Council is scheduled to consider an employment agreement for Mr. Gustavo“Gus” Vina, who is currently serving as the City Manager in Encinitas, California to serve as the City’s new City Manager.

It is expected that Mr. Vina will commence work on February17, 2015.

In response to his selection, Mr. Vina said, “I am honored to be joining the team at the City of Brentwood. I am excited about this great opportunity and know that it will be both personally and professionally gratifying. I want to thank the Mayor and City Council for this great opportunity and look forward to working with the Council, staff and the community of Brentwood.”

Mr. Vina will take over from Interim City Manager Steve Salomon who has been serving in that role since former City Manager Paul Eldredge resigned in July, 2014, to become General Manager of the Union Sanitary District.

Mayor Bob Taylor said: “The Council is looking forward to having Mr. Vina come on board to help lead Brentwood in our future endeavors. New leadership brings fresh ideas and thoughts and we believe that Mr. Vina is well suited to help us work together to ensure the successful completion of the City’s existing and future goals.”

Vice Mayor Joel Bryant said: “I’m very excited that the Council has chosen Mr. Vina as the City of Brentwood’s new City Manager. With his many years of experience, and his strong financial and economic development background, I believe he is exactly the person we need to help the Council implement its vision of a vibrant and sustainable future for Brentwood’s residents.”

Mr. Vina’s most recent position was as the City Manager of Encinitas in Southern California, where he served for three years. He has 34 years of public sector experience- 9 years with the State of California, 10 years with the City of Stockton and 12 years with the City of Sacramento.

He graduated from California State University at Sacramento with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. He achieved his Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University of San Francisco.
