BBQ Ashes Spark Fence Fire, Damages Brentwood Home

At 1:45 pm Monday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a residential structure fire in the 1300 block of Castello Ranch Road in Brentwood.

Upon arrival, Engine 52 found a fence on fire between two houses and upon further investigation advised the fire had extended and made entry into a garage.

Engine 52 quickly established its water line and knocked down the fence fire with Engine 88 (Antioch) arriving on scene where they entered the garage and located the fire which had activated the residential sprinkler system.

The fire was contained to the fence and exterior of the home. Crews performed overhaul on the wall while checking for extensions.

According to the fire district, no one was hurt in the incident which caused $50,000 worth of damages while destroying the fence and destroying the side of a garage wall. Crews were on scene for an hour.

The cause of the fire was ashes from a BBQ were thrown into a plastic garbage can stored next to a fence.

Vegetation Fire Breaks out at 2:22pm

While ECCFPD crews were battling the fire on Castello Ranch Road, a vegetation fire broke out in Knightsen in the 5800 block of Sellers near Jan Lane along the railroad tracks. Chief Henderson was first one scene who reported hay and debris on fire. The fire was on private property and was limited to just under a 1/2 acre.
