Barr, Bryant Reappointed to Brentwood City Council, Election Cancelled

Barr and Bryant

During Tuesday’s Special Meeting of the Brentwood City Council, Steve Barr and Joel Bryant were reappointed to the Council for 4-year terms.

The move comes after Councilmembers Barr and Bryant were the only two qualified nominees to run for election this November and were vying for two-seats. Due to California State law, because there are only two nominees for the two Council seats at the November 4, 2014 General Municipal Election, the City Council had the option to either appoint those nominated or hold the election.

Steve Barr was reappointed in a 3-0 vote (Barr recused himself).

“Steve has done a commendable job and throughout his first time he has showed a consistent concern for the community and worked with the rest of the council to make some good moves going forward,” said Bryant.

Mayor Bob Taylor agreed.

“The Council has worked real well together and it was clearly shown in the way that no one else really filed paper and have not heard anything from the public so I am in agreement with the Vice Mayor that Councilmember Barr has done an extraordinary job and that he remains in office,” said Taylor.

Joel Bryant was also reappointed in a 3-0 vote (Bryant recused himself)

“He (Bryant) has also been an extraordinary councilmember and its quite a pleasure to see him be re-appointed as part of the council and I wish him all the best as he serves another 4-years for the citizens of Brentwood,” said Taylor.

In a separate item, the Brentwood City Council adopted a resolution to cancel the November 4, 2014 election which was approved 4-0 which is estimated to save the city $37,500.

According to City Clerk Margaret Wimberly, this may be the first time no election was held in the City of Brentwood since its incorporating in 1948.

Councilman Gene Clare was absent from the meeting. The meeting lasted just 10-minutes.

Swell. Brentwood has now secured 4 more years of subpar leadership. Joel Bryant is a cross between Ned Flanders and Reverend Lovejoy (the Simpsons) when it comes to political wit.

For many years Brentwood demonstrated a good direction in east county. That is until Taylor and current board managed to get elected (and appointed). From there it has gone straight downhill. There are signs of this everywhere (can’t even keep a city manager). Until the status quo is replaced the city will continue to move backwards.

B-Wood I guess you have nobody to blame but yourself since they ran unopposed. maybe next time you can throw your hat in the ring.

You are 100 percent correct.

That’s right Bone W. Just like Mary Piepho at the county level we have to put up with it until someone else comes along.

Chuck,

“Bone” wood? Are you in the second grade? Gee, maybe you should run for the county. I see from your posts that you have some axe to grind. I’m beginning to believe there is a lot of truth to what I’ve read about you.

I follow local politics and unless I am wrong Peipho has had competition in the past. She originally beat an incumbent and held her seat when challenged by an Assemblyman. I recall she won her elections by a high margin. At this point I believe she has earned her stripes, unlike members of the city Council. I’m pleased with the job she has done-can’t say the same for the city council.

Again with your infatuation with Mary? You just can’t get past the fact the lady kicked you out of her office for throwing one of your little temper tantrums. Grow a pair, man up and get over it. Or do you want to continue to give me more opportunities to expose your bad behavior? Your choice.

Bone, You can’t even spell the name and you are a supporter. Talk about 2nd grade. It is Pie…. not Pe… Say Pie hole then take the hole out and put pho. You should also address the name by placing Supervisor before it. People may get confused that the person you are commenting about is a stipend thief. There are huge differences between a stipend thief and a nepotism nymph. Either way, Barr and Bryant are far more professional leaders than Supervisor Piepho could ever dream to be. They have done well for Brentwood. I wish them more successful years of leading Brentwood forward.

Chuck,

Again with the child like name calling? I never claimed to be a supporter. I pointed out what I recalled to counter your obvious on-going grudge and falsifications. I’m sorry my simple misspelling triggered your anger. You obviously have some deep seated issues going on in your head.

Back to the subject of Barr and Bryant. I hardly would categorize either of them as successful or “professional” leaders. I’m sure they both mean well and deserve kudos for their service, but neither has displayed the leadership qualities that prior councils brought to the table. I actually felt bad for Mr. Barr when he was beat by Bob Taylor. Talk about a race to the bottom. There was a time when Brentwood was considered an emerging city but now has faded into mediocrity. One only has to review at their individual performance and witness the deterioration of Brentwood since the current council and Mayor have been seated. Brentwood is in no way “moving forward”. Currently it is just treading water as the very things which made it an outstanding city disappear one at a time.
