Assemblymember Tony Thurmond Issues Statement Regarding the Passage of the 2017-2018 State Budget

Sacramento – Assemblymember Tony Thurmond (D – Richmond) Issues the following statement regarding the passage of the 2017-2018 state budget agreement between the State Legislature and Governor Brown.

This is a great budget for the people of California.  It addresses many of our most pressing needs by investing in our schools, fixing our roads, and expanding access to healthcare, while at the same time maintaining fiscal prudence.  It includes $31 million annually from my bill AB 1164, which funds child care services for foster children and their resource families. I am pleased to see that schools would receive an additional $1.4 billion next year for the Local Control Funding Formula, helping districts meet the unique needs of their students.  It also addresses critical areas like STEM and computer science, ensuring that California’s students are poised for success in higher education and the workforce.

Assemblymember Tony Thurmond represents the 15th Assembly District, comprised of the cities of Albany, Berkeley, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Emeryville, Hercules, Kensington, Piedmont, Pinole, Richmond, San Pablo, Tara Hills, and a portion of Oakland.
