Update Per Antioch Police Press Release

On May 4, 2016 at about 1752 hours, Antioch Police were notified of a carjacking that took place in Bay Point. In that case, a victim reported to Contra Costa Sheriff’s deputies that a Hispanic male armed with a shotgun had just stolen his black BMW and was last seen heading eastbound towards Pittsburg/Antioch.

As officers approached, the suspect began shooting and struck one officer. Officers returned fire. The suspect was not hit but surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect is not being identified at this time.

The officer was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries and subsequently released. The officer is not being identified at this time.

This case is being jointly investigated along with the Contra Costa County DA’s Office, the Contra Costa Crime Lab, and Pittsburg PD.

Mike, in your story you said, “according to radio traffic………”. What radio traffic? Cantando took radiio capability away from the public so how did you get radio traffic?

Glad our officers are OK. Too much shooting in Antioch in two days. OH, that is right, crime is down.

I am moving my 2 boys ages 3 and 8 and myself to Arizona. This county has gone to shit, it’s poorly supervised. It’s basically a bunch of non educated punks who are roaming freely doing whatever they want because they know, nobody is watching them. Good luck hope you get to Georgia soon , ill send prayers for you Deb that you get to Georgia really soon and safely!!!

there is no julio?

Daniel May 4, 2016 - 7:50 pm

Julio you can listen to Pittsburg PD, AMR, and Coco fire with a digital trunked scanner. The Antioch scum is bleeding into pittsburg.. Must be how Antioch felt in the 80’s and mid 90’s about pittsburg… Glad the officer is OK. At least 3 other people were injured in all of this.

Ms Kris May 4, 2016 - 8:54 pm

The police can’t handle what’s going on in this city alone. Why aren’t the Sheriffs out here patrolling? Antioch is the 3rd biggest city in Co Co County….where are all the Sheriffs at? Chillin in Martinez? We need them here…along with CHP…working with the APD.

SMH May 5, 2016 - 4:10 am

Glad the officer is ok, Wish they had blasted the perp to hell. So disgusted and sick of the scum and crime in East Bay. I appreciate all the officers try to do to keep us safe.

Wake up people May 5, 2016 - 7:58 am

Why do people always ask where more police are or complain what the city isn’t doing to stop crime? People pls understand that it’s YOU that are to make a difference! You have to report these scum bags whether it’s ur kids or ur neighbors! Where are the parents???? Why are parents raising scum? Are you proud that ur scum is sitting in jail after terrorizing the citizens???? The families can’t sit silent anymore.

This is so out of hand. The feds need to come and help take back the city or something. There is way too many bottom feeding low life criminals and free loaders in a town of 100,000. It is out of control. The county needs to step up and help. Harper is a joke! County Supervisor is a joke! They have dumped all these losers into our city and let them roam free 24 hours a day with no job, no legal money, and tons of weapons. It’s disgusting and pathetic that a once beautiful town has turned into a sesspool for section 8, homeless and criminals. Everyday it gets worse and worse. The city counsel and major rather worry about their precious waterpark then hiring more code enforcement and police officers. The homeless are camped everywhere, in public view, next to busy shopping centers, people’s homes. None of these people should ever be in a public office. Harper has ruined Antioch the last 8 years. He should never be in a public position or leadership. Delta Fair Blvd, Somersville, Buchanan, Lone Tree are breeding ground for crime. Our officers can only do so much. We need help and we need it fast!!!!

Kevin May 5, 2016 - 8:51 am

The recent shooting incidents are a symptom of the rampant dysfunction in our society – domestic disputes that sometimes happen to play out in public places, criminals who don’t adhere to a strong moral code, drug related crime, etc. etc. These are NOT CAUSED by the police or governmental powers that be; needless to say most of them could not have been prevented by the mayor or anyone else. We need to pray for and support our public servants. That means the community also has a responsibility, the police cannot do it alone. They need your help! Nothing is going to change until the people of Antioch join together in prayer and realize we all need Jesus, and God’s divine intervention!

Yes because mumbling some empty words to a make-believe Bronze Age god is going to solve all of our social strife. Once we realize that paying lip service to these types of ideologies in the first place is what has spiraled modern society down into its current violent state (quasi theocratic republic). Read any Old Testament and see that Yahweh would simple make the matter worse: enslavement of war captives and virgins, the slaughter of the young, etc. There’s no hope in your god.

Unome May 5, 2016 - 9:19 am

When government pays families to do nothing this is what you get. Too many irresponsible parents and kids who are bored and illiterate. Stop the hand outs and make these people have purpose by providing work or school. No work, no school, no more free housing, food, transportation, phones, credit cards, and entitlements. I’m not talking about the truly needy too.

????? May 5, 2016 - 9:32 am

I agree but how do you do that without punishing the kids that these loser people keep procreating without any sense of consequence?????

Unome May 5, 2016 - 11:40 am

Free day care while working, or at home work. Also more leeway for teachers to punish bad behavior. I don’t know anyone including myself that suffered from a paddle in the principals office. Stop cuddling these kids for bad behavior. Reward only good behavior like the Schools use to before not like today where everyone gets rewarded bad behavior or not. It’s worked for two thousand years it should never have changed.

Dwayne Jones May 5, 2016 - 9:50 am

Exactly these bottom feeders only no crime, their parents too. We’re tired of it!!!

Crypsis May 5, 2016 - 10:08 am

Without guns, the planet as we know it would not be as it is today. Without guns there would’ve been no conquest of the New World, no subsequent wars, no current world-policing. We’d like to deride the existence of guns in this country, but without guns we’d have nothing else that we call luxuries. Cars, roads, irrigation, hospitals, schools, farms, houses, markets…all brought into existence and sustained by those with guns. Without guns there’d be no America. We are the collective pistol-swinging cowboy of the world, strolling into town with every target hit and no questions asked. Our collective legacy is coming back to haunt us in the form of mass gun violence.

Michael Roy May 5, 2016 - 10:38 am

We need help in Antioch. Where is the Feds? Where are the sheriffs? Where is county, trying to help Antioch Police, who are understaffed. Things are out of control. You have the no job, no income, dirty money thugs and bottom feeders ruining our town. Harper has done nothing! City Counsel has done nothing. There are too worried about their precious water park, rather then the safety of the residence, Antioch has become perfect example of what happens when you drop free loaders, section 8 and criminals and their relatives into a town that once had so many great people. They roam around free 24 hours a day, with no one watching them. They loot, they car jack, they burglarize, they rob, with weapons, while law biding citizens are disarmed, left there like deer in the headlights. Enough is enough! WE NEED HELP!!! We are tired of paying taxes, trying to enjoy life, while we work hard, and they get sh*t handed to them and its not enough! Democrats are seriously the dumbest politicians on Earth! You don’t see the homelessness? You don’t see these scum bags walking around our streets all day and night? It’s a sick situation and as long as you keep electing these careless leaders to run our city, this will get worse!!!

Jerry May 6, 2016 - 5:18 am

Crime is always the highest where Democrats rule … Antioch, Stockton, Chicago, Detroit, L.A. …etc.

Hugh Jass May 8, 2016 - 1:40 pm

Look at all of you typical American sheep, crying and whining that your protectors aren’t sheilding you from all possible harm. Ever heard of self-defense? Wielding your own weaponry? Not turning the other cheek like we were all brainwashed with in Sunday school?

It’s time Antioch woke up and stopped being the petty consumerist scum we’ve all become and realize it’s time you took matters into your own hands…

Lou Skunt May 8, 2016 - 5:41 pm

The Reverend Maynard speaks. Troll on my friend….troll on. At least stick to one name on each topic. You posted on this one alone under three different user names, kinda makes you look desperate. You have good stuff at times though, stop trying too hard maybe??

Hugh Jass May 8, 2016 - 8:09 pm

No idea what you speak of, Lou. Presume on, my friend, presume on.
The conspiratorial mind looks for patterns in anything, and apparently yours is in high gear.

Lou Skunt May 9, 2016 - 9:01 pm

Lol. “Don’t go tossing your stones around”, Hugh. You know exactly what I speak of…it’s not hard to see behind the curtain.

Hugh Jass May 10, 2016 - 9:11 am

Lou, it just dawned on me…you’re the legendary RJB, Nick, Julio, and Concerned Antioch Resisent aren’t you?? Couldn’t pull the wool over our eyes for long, you clever dog!

Randi Jun 1, 2016 - 8:59 pm

Take the time a educate yourselves about what Gov Brown and Obama has been doing to the jails and prisons. They are letting people out and claiming that they are nonviolent.
