by ECT

The City of Antioch and the Police Department held a food drive Sunday where they distributed more than 170 full grocery bags of food to needy families.

According to Antioch Police Chief Allan Cantando, to Sergeant Tarra Nissen, CSO Samantha Peterson, and Administrative Analyst Ana Cortez brought this idea forward and they moved forward with it.

Sergeant Tarra Nissen explained the event provided 171 bags of groceries which they sorted Friday morning and also included more than 200 stuffed animals for the kids. Nissen considered the drive a success.

“I think everyone walked away with a smile, including those who volunteered.  This year’s drive came to fruition in less than a month,” stated Niessen. “We are excited to make next year bigger and better!”

During the event, the Furry Friends Food Relief Program was also hosting an event at Animal Services where they were giving away free pet food for cats and dogs. Santa approached Antioch Police and donated an extra tree to one family.
