Antioch: 1 Killed in Fatal Crash, 4 Injured

At 12:43 am Saturday, Antioch Police and Contra Costa County firefighters responded to a major injury accident that left at least one person dead and four injured in Antioch.

The incident occurred at Hillcrest Avenue and Wildflower Drive where a vehicle struck a tree and one person was ejected from the vehicle and four others were listed in critical condition.

IMG_4503The incident shut down the roadway in both directions as firefighters worked the scene trying to extricate two patients who were trapped in the vehicle.

At least four AMR ambulances were requested along with four medical helicopters, however, due to an earlier crash in Byron injuring five people, local helicopters were unavailable.

One helicopter arrived within 30-minutes of the crash which transported one patient to Eden Medical Center, however, others were more than an hour away.

No further details were provided on scene and Antioch Police were expected to release information later Saturday morning.

On the listed date and time, Antioch PD received the report of a solo vehicle collision on Hillcrest Avenue south near Wildflower Drive.

Upon arrival, a solo vehicle was found in the roadway after colliding with a tree in the center median. The driver suffered major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Four other passengers were severely injured in the collision and were transported to area hospitals for treatment. All were later found to have non-life threatening injuries and are listed in stable condition.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in this collision. The cause is still under investigation at this time. All names are being withheld at this time pending notification of next kin. No further information will be released at this time.
