Playground grand opening

Just a reminder that a fabulous event will be occurring tonight for the special needs community and children of all ages as The City of Brentwood will celebrate the grand opening of the new pirate-themed universal abilities playground at Veterans Park, 3841 Balfour Road, with a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m.

Light refreshments and pirate-themed favors will be provided. The event will be held rain or shine.

If anyone happens to take pictures or wants to take pictures, I would be happy to post them on here for you. Just email them to me at [email protected]

Project Background:
In September, Brentwood hosted its groundbreaking where Paula King of the Contra Costa Times reported the city allocated $250,000 to the project and the Special Kids Foundation  raised $35,000 for it. The entire playground will be fenced, which appeals to many parents and grandparents of special needs children,

According to Ruth Roberts of the Brentwood Press,  the focal point of the park is a state-of-the-art pirate ship play structure complete with cannons and masts. Anchored by three slides and two wheelchair-accessible ramps as well as other ability-friendly accessories, the play structure can accommodate all levels of access and play. Also included in the park is a quiet zone that includes a crawl hole and two interpretive panels, which make water sounds such as rain, ocean waves and running rivers. The panels are interactive – when children touch a picture of water, they hear the appropriate sounds.

Another wonderful event that no doubt Mayor Blob Taylor will hi-jack.

Kudos to the real people that made this happen…I hear there is quite a list.

“Light refreshments and pirate-themed favors will be provided.” Is ‘da Mayor going to be using a city owned vehicle for self promotion, parking in restricted spaces or maybe just limiting his skills to selling “hot dawgs” again? Who knows which new stunts bumbling Blob Taylor will pull off this time around.
