Updated: 3 Antioch High Students Struck by Vehicles in Two Separate Incidents

by ECT

At 7:14 am Monday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in front of Antioch High School in the City of Antioch.

According to firefighters on scene at W 18th and G Street, they arrived to the location with a person down in the middle of the roadway with Antioch police.

A short time later,  at 8:07 am, two students were also struck by a vehicle in the 700 block of G Street. Both were transported via AMR ambulance.

Information released by Antioch High School Principal Louie Rocha:

This morning in two separate incidents on 18th Street, while in the pedestrian crosswalk, three Antioch High School students were struck by vehicles. The students were conscious, received medical attention and transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

Although pedestrians have the right of way in crosswalks, please remind your students to be aware of their surroundings while crossing 18th Street when traffic is congested and visibility is often diminished for drivers.

We will have our campus supervisors assist students with the two crosswalks in the morning hours. Drivers should also pay particular attention to pedestrians and other vehicles during these busy times.

We hope everyone will be careful and remain safe.

The driver of the car in the story above fled the scene.
-A short while later two more female students were also hit in front of Antioch High School by a different driver, in the same spot. APD closed that section on 18th st. for approx. 1hr. Both juveniles were taken by ambulance to the hospital in what appeared to be a precautionary measure.

That area has horrid 8am/3pm single lane traffic with hundreds of new inexperienced drivers, inpatient parents etc. Single lane drop off and pickup nightmare.

That’s why kids are supposed to get dropped off & picked up on L St. behind the stadium bleachers. Plenty of space.

Very poorly designed and no police enforcement. If those parents would get tickets for picking up in red zones, speeding and any number of other offences things would straighten out. All of our schools are like this not just Antioch High School. More enforcement is needed.
