Mr. Boudin articulates a false dilemma. He portrays the issue as either fund policing OR fund homeless assistance programs – with no other alternatives. We should be pushing for more homeless assistance IN ADDITION TO police funding, not INSTEAD of it.
There are many other places to “raid the budget” besides policing. San Francisco’s notoriously wasteful and corrupt city government has the money. What it lacks is competent and reasonably honest government. It needs a Michael Bloomberg – someone who can get things done. Instead it has a clueless mayor whose boy friend was the now criminal former public works director.
Agreed. It is a shame the destruction and failure to protect. I hope CCSF gets sued by retail and other injured parties; maybe then they might be forced to change policy and repeal politically motivated proposition 47 and its companion bills passed by State of California.
