The Pink Plate Campaign was in full swing on Monday as they attended the Oakland A’s Breast Cancer Awareness game against the Texas Rangers as they  continue their mission to collect 7,500 signatures.

Heather Solari, Chere Rush, Deborah Bordeau, and Heather McCollough were able to collected over 160 signatures of supporters who signed up Monday. The foursome were appreciative of the opportunity and thanked A’s fans for their support. Prior to the game, they set up a booth to get their message out and were on the field during the Breast Cancer Ribbon Ceremony.

“Last year we were able to talk on the jumbotron but did not participate. This year, the Oakland A’s reached out to us to set up a booth and we said absolutely. They came to us which was nice. We were both happy and surprised by the invite because usually we do all the contacting to do the booths so it was nice,” said Solari.

The Pink Plate Campaign is trying to gain as many supporters while collecting as many signatures as possible before it gets to the Governor. 7,500 appears to be the magic number to get the license plates in action—the group currently has 5,659 signatures as of Tuesday evening.

Once they reach their goal and AB49 is approved by the Governor, the production of pink plates to raise cancer awareness will go into production. The group also just received good news from the California Highway Patrol as they gave their blessing on the pink background with blue text which was one of the final endorsements they needed.

“It’s a long process and we just need the supporters,” said Solari. “We just received CHP approval for the pink background. We are hoping to get the Senate Approval before break. We are hoping to begin selling this year. If not, we have to wait.”

Having the California Highway Patrol approval is huge according to Solari.

“It’s pretty big because everyone kept saying that if CHP puts its blessing on it the Senate Transportation Committee would let it go through. We received the letter of approval so we can forward it on and keep pushing this forward—but we still need 2,000 signatures,” explained Solari.

About California Pink Plate
The California Pink Plate campaign was started by a group of Breast Cancer Survivors in Northern California that wanted to make a difference. Each survivor had a different journey but they all had the same goal; to provide education, support and research for Breast Cancer Awareness. With the assistance and leadership of Assemblymember Joan Buchanan, the California Pink Plate Bill, AB49, was introduced in the California State Legislature. The survivors and Joan agreed this was the best way to raise awareness. This is the first in many steps we need to take to make the California Pink Plate a reality. We’re off to a great start, but in order for the California Pink Plate to become a reality, we need your help.
