Walnut Creek Police Arrest Two After Resident Interrupts Home Burglary

Press Release

by ECT

Walnut Creek Police say that on September 4 at approximately 1:30 pm, a citizen returned to his residence off Heritage Ct. that was in the process of being renovated.

Upon entry into his home, the citizen interrupted two suspects as they rifled through a bedroom. The victim and suspects exchanged words and the suspects fled the scene. As the victim called WCPD Dispatch to give the vehicle and suspect descriptions, an officer in the area observed the suspect vehicle and attempted an enforcement stop.

A records check showed the vehicle as stolen out of Richmond, earlier in the day. The suspect vehicle fled, leading officers on a pursuit onto westbound Hwy-24. The driver of the suspect vehicle began driving erratically, at which time WCPD officers terminated the pursuit in the interest of public safety.

As officers exited the freeway on Wilder Rd. in Orinda, they observed the suspect vehicle had driven off the roadway and the suspects fled on foot into the hillsides of the Siesta Valley Recreation Area.

WCPD officers including a K9, along with CHP, Orinda PD, and Moraga PD all worked together with the use of a CHP helicopter to apprehend the two suspects.

Miguel Ruiz (45, Santa Ana) and Hector Vasquez-Holguin (34, Bay Point) were both arrested and will be charged for their respective roles in the incident.

One of the suspects had to be treated for complaint of pain after fleeing in the 105-degree heat.

They were both booked at the Martinez Detention Facility.

I wish reporters would not say that police terminated the pursuit after the suspects started driving erratically. This is why they think they can get away with this crap. Let the police do whatever they feel they need to do but don’t advertise to criminals.
