Just after 7:00 am Thursday, Contra Costa County Fire was dispatched to a report of a vehicle crash on eastbound Highway 4 just prior to the Hillcrest exit. It was reported multiple vehicles involved with at least 1 person trapped.
By 7:08 am, Engine 81 reported that 3-4 vehicles were on the shoulder and confirmed a patient was trapped including an infant with a broken leg. A total of 3 AMR units were requested along with a medical helicopter.
As of 7:20 am, Contra Costa County Fire reported that the landing spot was going to be on Highway 4 and CHP would shut down the freeway. A total of 5 patients were being treated with the 1-year-old to be airlifted to UC Davis.
In total, 5 children injured along with 1 adult.

CHP does a terrible job of patrolling Hwy 4. If they had just 1 officer patrolling daily, they would pay for that officer x 20.
