Updated: Female Dies in Highway 4 Shooting, Second Victim Expected to Survive

Just before 11:00 am Wednesday, Pittsburg Police officers responded to westbound Highway 4 near Railroad Avenue for a traffic collision.  Pittsburg police officers located a solo vehicle collision.

A female adult driver and a male adult  were transported to a local hospital; The female was pronounced deceased at the hospital the male is expected to survive.

She was identified just after 5:00 pm as Shanique Marie from Pittsburg. She’s a 25-year-old mother of four, with another baby on the way according to family members.

Both occupants were suffering from injuries as a result of the collision and gunshot wounds.  (The vehicle lost control and struck the dirt embankment and rolled over after the shooting.)

The victims were shot by a suspect in another vehicle traveling W/B on Highway 4.  This appears to be a targeted shooting and the incidents leading up to this shooting is currently under investigation.

We are working closely with CHP to increase safety on Highway 4 and we will also be seeking council approval, during the May 16th meeting, for installing cameras to monitor traffic on Highway 4.

At 10:50 am, Contra Costa firefighters responded to a report of medical emergency on Highway 4 near Railroad.

Upon arrival, Contra Costa Fire Battalian Chief reported they had two victims with gunshot wounds. One victim was transported to John Muir Walnut Creek.

According to the CHP log, the suspect vehicle was a white car with a male Hispanic driver.

By 11:09 am, Contra Costa Fire were available on scene. According to the CHP, they were working on shutting down traffic in the westbound direction.

Pittsburg Police Captain Ron Raman confirmed that a shooting did occur and that at least one person was transported to a local hospital.
