An overnight vegetation fire has prompted multiple evacuations in the City of Pittsburg.
The fire broke out at 2:00 am in the 2200 block of Jacqueline Drive off Daffodil Dr and Serrano Way and as grown to 200 acres as of 4:00 am according to Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. CALFIRE is also assisting.
CONFIRE has confirmed homes threatened and evacuations have taken place. If you are threatened, don’t wait, evacuate. Please avoid area

This is a message from the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff. Due to a FIRE an IMMEDIATE EVACUATION has been ordered for the area:
NORTH OF Jacqueline Drive SOUTH OF West Leland Road EAST OF Bailey Road
WEST OF San Remo Way, San Remo Court in Pittsburg. ZONEHAVEN ZONE PTS-E008 This is an Evacuation Order. Leave now and go South to SAFEWAY off of BAILEY ROAD in Pittsburg. Take only important items you have ready and can carry with you. Pets must be in a carrier or on a leash. Stay off the phone unless you need to report a life-threatening emergency at your location. If you are physically unable to leave your home unassisted, call 9 1 1 for help.
6:05 am UPDATE:
mandatory evacuation order has been LIFTED. Residents asked to use caution when returning to homes to avoid interfering with crews & equipment in area.
9:30 am UPDATE
Contra Costa County Fire has revised the acreage to 125-acres burned with the cause of the fire still under investigation.
According to Contra Costa County Fire spokesperson Steve Hill, the fire threatened approximately 100 homes and had it not been for proper weed abatement taken seriously, several homes would have gone up in flames. In total, the fire went 3-alarms with the third-alarm going for structure protection with approximately 100 firefighters at the scene.
Hill said the weed abatement was done “very well” and the defensible space created by the property owner likely saved several homes. No structures were lost and no injuries reported.
Hill also credited both the Pittsburg Police Department and Contra Costa County Sheriff with helping the evacuations run smoothly along with the American Red Cross.
CONFIRE Investigators and CALFIRE still investigating the incident and the cause was not known as of 9:30 am.
