Update: One Dead in Pittsburg Explosion, Incident Remains Under Investigation

At 9:23 am Wednesday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a burn victim on Linscheid Drive in the City of Pittsburg.

It was reported that a 68-year-old male victim had burns to his head, chest, and other parts of his body after a fire in the home.

It was requested that Pittsburg Police respond after an “explosion” was reported inside the home. When units arrived on scene, there was no further fire threat, but responded after someone reported all the windows were blown out and no signs of fire.

A medical helicopter was requested and was expected to land at the Church of Good Shepherd for air transport of the patient.

No other information was available.

7:07 pm UPDATE per Contra Costa County Fire Protection District

Con Fire was called by Pittsburg Police this morning to the scene of a possible explosion on Linscheid Drive in Pittsburg. Arriving on scene, there was no sign of smoke or fire. Soon thereafter, at 9:23 a.m., Con Fire was advised of a victim at the scene with burns over much of his body. 

Patient was treated at scene and Con Air 2 was requested for air transport. A landing zone was established at Good Shepherd Church on Harbor Street. The patient was transported by ground to the landing zone, transferred to Con Air 2 and flown to U.C. Davis Medical Center at 9:52 a.m. 

The patient succumbed to injuries. Queries regarding the death should be directed to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Con Fire’s Fire Investigation Unit has initiated an investigation. The matter remains under investigation at this time.

It would appear that this man was cooking something he shouldn’t be cooking.
