Update: Concord Man Without Valid License Kills Pedestrian in Pittsburg

by ECT

The Pittsburg Police Department says a pedestrian was killed Tuesday morning on W. Leland Road after a vehicle sped past officers and shortly after it crashed.

According to Captain Ron Raman, at 7:45 am, one of their officers was traveling, in a fully marked patrol car, eastbound on West Leland Rd when a vehicle sped past him. The vehicle was traveling well over the posted speed limit.  The officer activated his emergency lighting equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle where the driver, and sole occupant, accelerated rapidly away from the officer.

“Due to the drivers erratic driving, high speeds and heavy commute traffic ahead our officer stopped pursing the vehicle.   As the officer continued eastbound, he saw that the vehicle had crashed through the fence at the Golf Course and continued driving onto the course,” explained Raman. “The officer also noticed a pedestrian along the south sidewalk had been struck by the vehicle.  The officer did not witness the collision, rather drove upon it after it occurred; He was approximately a half mile behind the location of the collision.”

Police say attempts were made to render aid to the pedestrian but the victim was deceased. The victim has yet to be identified and appears to an adult who was walking on the sidewalk with no identification.

The suspect driver abandoned the vehicle on the Golf Course while responding officers were given a description of the suspect and located him on Dover Way, several blocks from the scene. He is currently being interviewed by investigators.

Police say this is still a very active investigation and will be investigating this jointly with the District Attorney’s Office and CHP.

West Leland Rd between Golf Course Road and Daffodil Drive will be closed for several hours.

So sad to hear about the innocent pedestrian. People are not safe anywhere. And the driver was such a coward that he committed the act and fled on foot like a sissy. I’m glad he was caught and can enjoy the remainder of his pathetic life in prison.

I think he should be shackled to a corner and have a car speed toward him striking him to his death!

This is just one of many careless criminals living among us all. We are their victims intended or not. They must not be treated like a victim.

Omg! This must have happened literally just minutes before I drove by. I saw the aftermath and witnessed the police with the suspect, in handcuffs, on Dover. Scarier still, is the park and Jr high school right there. Smh..

$100 says Mr. Vela-Chavez is an illegal alien. The type Donald Trump has described over the last few months. And the type that the President and to many pinheads in California think have a right to be here roaming free on our streets.
