Update: Arson Arrest Made in Antioch Fire on Deer Valley Road

On Monday, the Antioch Police Department located a suspect related to an arson that occurred Monday in the City of Antioch.

The fire occurred just before 8:00 pm Monday in the area of Deer Valley Road and Prewett Ranch which threatened multiple homes and caused a 2-alarm fire response by Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and shut down the roadway for several hours.

The suspect, who fled the scene, was identified as Maeweather Marshall, 37 of Oakland. He was arrested on charges of 451 (C) which is arson to forest lands. He was identified at the time of the fire with help from witnesses and was located later in the night by Antioch Police who was detained and taken into custody from Contra Costa County fire investigators.

No other information has been released on this incident.


Original Report

At 7:51 pm Monday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a fence fire in the area of Deer Valley Road and Prewett Ranch in the City of Antioch. The fire was also observed on the PG&E camera from Mount Diablo which sent a large column of smoke into the air.

While responding, CONFIRE reported brown smoke and requested a full vegetation fire. Upon arrival, they located several trees on fire in pine trees and brush on Deer Valley Road. It was also determined several structures were threatened and an immediate second alarm was requested.

Units were dispatched to Strawberry Court and Squaw Ct. A short time later, additional units were sent to Rachel Court for immediate structure protection.

Antioch Police Department was also requested to shut down Deer Valley Road in both directions.

By 8:28 pm, forward progress was stopped and a short-time later the fire was estimated to be 1 acre in size.

UPDATE
Deer Valley Road has since reopened by Antioch Police.
