Update: 1 Dead After Vehicle Crashes into Canal in Pittsburg

At 2:22 am Wednesday, Contra Costa County Firefighters responded to the 3700 block of Railroad Avenue in the City of Pittsburg after it was reported that a vehicle had entered the canal.

As of 2:50 am, three rescue swimmers were in the water and confirmed the vehicle was completely submerged. Pittsburg Police also responded to the call.

By 2:54 am, a subject was pulled from the vehicle and medical care was being provided.

By 3:03 am, it was reported by BC8 that the patient was in CPR while traveling to the hospital.

UPDATE
According to Battalion Chief Jim Huntze, fire crews arrived on scene where they located a vehicle upside down fully submerged in the water with a person trapped. Crews were able to free the subject, however, it was estimated he was underwater for as long as 30-minutes.

Once pulled from the water, fire crews performed CPR and worked on the 19-year-old male until they arrived at the hospital via AMR transport where he succumbed to his injuries.
