Beginning at 2:00 pm Saturday with a Kids Zone, Lumpy’s Diner in Antioch will be hosting its 7th Annual Car Show and Burger Eating Contest.
For months, Marci Sturgill has kept the mantra that “the show will go on” saying this will be the biggest and best event yet to honor her late husband Jeremy “Lumpy” Sturgill, who passed away in June, while hoping to raise funds for the Special Kids Foundation.
Sturgill says she has been on the fast track to learning the business over the last several months while also planning the event. She was thankful for all the support from friends, family and the community.
Last years event raise $2,000 for Special Kids Foundation and Sturgill is hoping this year to raise even more funds.
“I have a feeling there is going to be a huge outpouring of support Saturday since everything that has happened. Local businesses have donated and there are way too many to name,” says Sturgill. ““I know the show will go on and I am really excited. I can’t lie and say I am not nervous. In the past I’ve always been a part of putting this on, but in the background. This year, I have to do that with help and be the face of the brand. It makes me nervous and scared.”
According to Sturgill, the car show will feature about 80 cars who are paying a $10 entry fee which will then be donated to the Special Kids Foundation. The kids zone, which will sell tickets for bounce houses and other games will also be 100% donated to the cause.
Also as part of the events tradition, there will be a petting zoo for the kids.
For the kids burger eating contest, it’s open to kids 12 and under. The event is limited to the first 14-kids who sign up and the winner will be crowned to the first kid who can eat two hamburgers the fastest.
In the adult burger eating contest, the winner could win $1,000 with second place taking home $250 and third place earning $100. The winner will be crowned by whoever can eat the most hamburgers in a 12-minute period. There are still a couple spots open for the contest.
“This will be a great event and everyone is welcome to come down and help raise funds for a good cause,” said Sturgill. “We are trying to keep things as soulful and regular as possible. Family and friends have provided a lot of help and are a huge part in keeping the doors open. I also want to recognize the community and our customers for all their continued support. It’s meant a lot to me.”
