Thursday: Antioch to Hold Oath of Office Ceremony

by ECT

On Thursday, the City of Antioch will hold a Special Meeting of the City Council to hold the Oaths of Office ceremony for all newly elected officials within the City of Antioch.

After the Contra Costa County Election’s Office issued its final results on December 6, it shows Sean Wright won the mayor’s seat by just 64-votes.

Wright had 11,497 total votes to Wade Harpers 11,433. Lori Ogorchock, who will remain on the council, had 7,232 votes followed by Gil Murillo at 3,186 votes.

In the council race, Lamar Thorpe (27.21%) earned the most votes with 13,427 with Councilwoman Monica Wilson retaining her seat as she earned 11,655 – which was 1,337 votes ahead of Mary Helen Rocha who took third. Ken Turnage II came in 4th with 8,109 votes, followed by Karl Dietzel 2,964 votes and Frederick Rouse at 2,754 votes.

The Council will also host its city council reorganization where it will select a mayor pro tem—which typically comes from the member who received the highest vote total at the General Election—in this case, would be Lamar Thorpe.

Also being sworn in are City Clerk Arne Simonsen and City Treasure Donna Conley – both ran unopposed and earned more than 98% of the vote—both surpassed more than 26,000 votes.

I heard many bad things about Lamar Thorpe, how he got elected is beyond me, but hope Wright can turn this city around. Stop the dumping of homeless, crime, section 8 into our communities please

Lamar Thorpe has a past that should have made voters run the other way had anyone challenged his past abuse back east. A bunch of political rookies who were more interested in playing nice than letting the cream rise to the top. Most of the candidates were not savvy enough to use the media, use social media or even campaign for that matter.

I can only hope Antioch treats Sean Wright the same way Wade Harper was treated when nothing changes.

Clean up the homeless, eliminate section 8, revitalize downtown Antioch, bring back jobs, fix hwy 4 because the traffic still sucks, and bring back a sense of community to the once beautiful Antioch, oh and also allow conceal carry for all outstanding citizens of Antioch, fight crime!
