Student in Custody After Bringing Gun on Campus at MNO Grant Elementary School in Antioch

by ECT

On Wednesday, the Antioch Unified School District confirmed that a student brought a gun onto campus at MNO Grant Elementary School in the City of Antioch.

The student was identified as a 6th grade and no injuries were reported after a student had told an adult on campus about the firearm.

Here is the message that went out to parents.

Good afternoon,

This is Ms. Zuniga, Principal of Grant Elementary with an important safety announcement. Earlier today, a student reported that another student brought a gun onto campus. The student was immediately isolated and the weapon confiscated  No students were injured and law enforcement was notified. Although this is an isolated event, it highlights the need to encourage children and adults that when they see something they need to say something. In this case, I would like to commend the student who immediately reported the weapon to an adult.

As always, safety is our top priority. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Thank you.

According to Antioch Unified School District Superintendent Stephanie Anello, they could not release much information on the incident as it is an ongoing police matter. All further inquiries were direct to Antioch Police.

“I am very proud of the student who reported the firearm to adults at the school and doing the right thing so adults could intervene quickly as safety is our highest priority,” said Anello.”

The incident occurred after a Walk Against Violence was held on Saturday, February 22.

The Antioch Police Department have released no information on the incident as of 2:45 pm.

Doesn’t it also highlight the need for parents to make sure their children don’t have access to guns to bring to school?
