Nancy Kaiser, Parks and Recreation Director, explained the background of the park and how it was created during the Cattail Harbor Ribbon Cutting.
“This would not have all started if not for many years ago, a couple of centuries ago, when Joseph Prewett left Illinois and came to California,” explained Kaiser. “He arrived here in 1909 and purchased this property where we are standing now, a pretty significant ranching and farming operation.”
She went onto explain how the children went on to continue to farm this whole area on their ranch.
“The family was active in local schools and education, serving on school boards, banking and insurance as the entire east county evolved to today. The Prewett family donated the 100-acres where we are at today along Lone Tree Way beginning at Deer Valley Road to the commercial area,” said Kaiser. “This 100-acres is Prewett Community Park, which is a wonderful destination park. The water park is the first entity that opened here, the first number one feature that created Prewett Community Park, we added the community center, the skate park. We are very thankful for the Prewett Family and their vision here in here in Antioch to bring us what we have today.”
