San Jose Police Investigating an Officer that was Fatally Shot

San Jose: On Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at approximately 6:48 p.m., San Jose police officers responded to an apartment complex located on the 2600 block of Senter Rd. regarding an adult male threatening to kill himself with a firearm.

Multiple officers arrived on-scene and were met with gunfire by the suspect, who was in his apartment balcony, armed with a high powered rifle. There was an exchange of gunfire and Officer Johnson was fatally wounded.

Scott-DunhamThe SJPD M.E.R.G.E. (Mobile Emergency Response Group and Equipment) Unit responded and made tactical entry into the suspect’s apartment. The suspect,Scott Dunhan, 57, of San Jose, was located deceased in the balcony of his residence. The investigation is on-going.

Officer Michael Johnson was a 14 year veteran who spent his career in patrol. He was currently assigned as a Field Training Officer.
