On Saturday, May 7, 2016, at 8:21 pm, Rio Vista Police Officers were requested to assist Vacaville Police Department with a vehicle pursuit that was approaching the city limits. The pursued vehicle was a maroon Chevy Silverado that was reported stolen from Kern County.

Officers blocked roadway access to State Route 12 as a preventive measure to insure public safety. Moments later, the sounds of sirens were heard coming from the west. Officers then observed a maroon Chevy Silverado driving at a high rate of speed through the intersection of State Route 12 and Drouin Drive. Officers engaged in the pursuit and followed behind the Chevy traveling eastbound on State Route 12.

Solano County Dispatch advised that Caltrans at the Rio Vista Bridge was aware of the pursuit and had raised the bridge. The traffic crossing arms were lowered in both the eastbound and westbound directions as well as steel road barricades being raised across the roadway. The Chevy continued to travel eastbound on State Route 12 entering the bridge. The Chevy drove through the lowered traffic crossing arms and continued to travel eastbound. The Chevy then collided with the steel road barricades stopping and disabling the vehicle.

A felony traffic stop was conducted by Rio Vista Police, Vacaville Police, and Solano County Sheriff Deputies. The driver and three other subjects were removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest by Vacaville Police. All occupants of the vehicle were under the age of 18.

State Route 12 remained closed for approximately 4 hours while Caltrans conducted repairs to lower the damaged barricades. Traffic was rerouted during this period and a sig-alert was activated.

Clearly we need to illegalize cars. Having a car only attracts criminals into our neighborhoods where our children live. This article clearly demonstrates that. As a people we need to stand up and make a ban on automobiles. They’re poisoning our water, our land, our skies, and our future with innumerable amounts of waste. If you want to be lazy and not use your feet for walking then that’s between you and the creator. #illegalizecars
