At 5:35 am Wednesday, the Antioch Police Department received a report of a vehicle crash in the area of Wilbur Ave and Wilbur Lane in the City of Antioch.
The call originally came in as a vehicle versus pedestrian, however, upon arrival, it was a vehicle versus a mini quad which left one person dead.
The incident has shut down a portion of Wilbur Ave as Antioch Police are investigating the incident. The roadway is expected to be closed for several hours.
No other information was released at the scene.
11:30 am UPDATE
On 8/25/21 at approximately 5:30 am, police dispatch received a call of a vehicle versus a pedestrian. Police and medical personnel responded immediately and located a 39-year-old Antioch resident non-responsive and suffering major injuries.
Officers discovered the pedestrian was a subject riding an ATV on Wilbur Avenue near Viera Avenue. Life saving measures were taken but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Â The ATV rider was not wearing a helmet and appeared to be in the middle of the roadway.
The driver of the involved vehicle remained on scene and was cooperating with the investigation. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision. The Antioch Police Department Traffic Unit responded and took over the investigation.

Could it be that the city’s politicians are more concerned about their own agendas and their own authority and not so much about the welfare of the people of they were elected to serve? Ok, I seen him he was trying to move the quad, I seen him, why did the vehicle not see him, was the person on the vehicle on the phone, going way to fast, sorry the quad drives was doing the right thing, trying to move the quad, not to cause a accident, n what happens because someone was going fast or on their phone, n looking elsewhere, the vehicle was definitely at fault, please note this

I knew this would happen sooner or later, but it happened sooner. Hope this is well-publicized. Although this happened to a middle-aged guy, I hope the kids who ride those and interfere with traffic . . . and their irresponsible parents . . . . read about it and learn something. Your kids can be next! Your job is to protect them from harm and raise them to respect people!

ELVA, the idiots illegally riding quads move in front of your vehicle so fast that you cannot hit the brakes fast enough. It’s happened to me! You have a green light and you’re moving with traffic! They stop suddenly even when the light is green and don’t move out of the way. What happened here is the logical conclusion to such reckless and illegal driving this moron did. Now, he’s gone! An idiot riding a quad which is an illegal thing to do on our city streets! On top of that the jerk doesn’t wear a helmet. These idiots tend to slam in front of cars and trucks without warning. They endanger motorists by running red lights and stop signs! They put others in danger! I’m surprised it’s taken so long to get rid of one of them. If they keep pulling such stunts, there will be fewer and fewer of them and that’s not a bad thing!

This is what happens if you thumb your nose at the law! Hope this serves as a lesson to the other shitheads who do the same thing. Legally driven vehicles mostly drive at the speed limit which is around 40 mph to keep the traffic moving! These quad and other ATV vehicles cut in-and-out of lanes and slam right in front of a vehicle going 40 mph and this is what happens. They go SPLAT! Not helmet? He contributed to his own death so don’t blame anyone else!
I saw an idiot riding a dirt bike on lone tree way doing a wheelie and NOT wearing a helmet around 5:30 pm last week. He Must have rode that bike for about 6 blocks before turning right at the shell station. My first taught was where’s APD? Hmmmmm. Yeah no where to be found.

If the person driving the car wasn’t on their phone or driving fast then they would have been able to see him an not hit him.
