At 1:47 am Tuesday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vehicle crash at Laurel Road and Hillcrest in the City of Antioch.

According to preliminary information, firefighters had to use the Jaws of life to cut a Santa Clara carjack suspect out of a Toyota following a police chase by Antioch Police. A total of three people were injured.

The suspect turning onto Northbound Hillcrest from westbound Laurel and two people in a black car traveling northbound were involved in the accident. The challenges was cutting the brand new Toyota apart to get the Suspect out.

The person was trapped in the car for approximately 20-minutes. Antioch Animal Control was also called to get a pet pittbull dog out of the victims black car.

The incident is being investigated by Santa Clara County and CHP was on scene since Antioch Police were involved in the case.

No other information has been released.

ANTIOCH, CA. On March 1, 2022, at approximately 12:23 AM, Antioch Police Officers located a vehicle on the 4000 block of Lone Tree Way that was related to an armed robbery and carjacking that occurred in the city of Cupertino.

Antioch Police Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop on the vehicle where the driver, 22- year-old Anthony Valdez Jr, was initially compliant and yielded to officers. During the high-risk traffic stop, Valdez Jr fled the scene at a high rate of speed, leading officers on a vehicle pursuit. Antioch Police Officers pursued the suspect vehicle for a short distance through city streets.

The suspect vehicle entered the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and Laurel Road and collided with a
civilian vehicle in the intersection, disabling both vehicles. The victim motorist, a 58-year-old male from Sacramento, was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries.

Valdez Jr sustained non-life-threatening major injuries and was attended to by medical personnel at the scene before being transported to an area hospital. Additionally, the passenger in the suspect vehicle, 22-year-old Kiara Vasquez, sustained minor injuries and was also transported to an area hospital.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office was notified and responded to continue their portion of the investigation. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the vehicle collision which is standard protocol when a vehicle collision is involved with a law enforcement vehicle pursuit

Vehicle Crash Blocks Portion of E 18th Street

At approximately 10:15 pm Monday, a two vehicle crash involving a sheared pole has shutdown a portion of E 18th Street near Cavallo Road. No other information was made available on this incident. As of 5:30 am Tuesday, the roadway was still shutdown as the pole is being replaced.
