Public Health Advisory Lifted in Antioch and Pittsburg

by ECT

At 5:44 am Friday, a public health advisory was lifted by Contra Costa County after there was a release from Dow Chemical in Pittsburg.

The alert was issued for residents in Antioch and Pittsburg around 3:00 am Friday morning where officials said the release could affect individuals with respiratory sensitivities. Most people will not be affected. Eye, skin, nose or throat irritation may be possible for some people in the affected area.

If people experience any irritation, advise them to go inside and rinse any irritated area of their body with water.

With the alert being lifted, People may go about their normal business

So We get Amber alerts on our phones but if there’s a health advisory were all completely clueless. Sorry a tv broadcasting system is not going to work when we’re all fucking asleep. Antioch and pittsburg. Get this shit together. People wonder why you’re such shit towns. It’s because you don’t give a flying fuck about your residents. I’ve asked about 50 people about if they knew about this and every single one said they had no clue.

Interesting how they don’t say what the “release” was.

Thanks for voicing you opinion Jessica, your rant is pretty entertaining. Since you obviously don’t know much about the situation, I will help you out on a few things. 1) Contra Costa County Environmental Health, Haz-mat, and Con-Fire make the decisions, not the cities on when shelter in place alerts go out. 2) Those three decided that due to a very light westerly wind last night that the chemicals would pose no problem to the public and the chemicals would dissipate into the atmosphere. 3) Pittsburg isn’t a shit town

Joe,

You sound like an informed/educated person. You can read that the primary concern here is the method of notifying residents that there was this type of alert. I live nearby and never heard anything about this until I stumbled onto this article. What methods are in place to notify people of these things?

I realize that the Amber alert system is statewide. But what if plants like these were required to create a similar system for the local surrounding residents where they could subscribe to it and be alerted of urgent situations at the plant that effect the public. Would it be costly, it might. But this is public safety we’re talking about and we need something that notifies the public quickly and efficiently at all hours.

Michael there is something in place, and if the release was a threat to the public a phone call would have been made to the residents in the effected neighborhoods.
