What is CERT?

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program helps train people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities. When emergencies happen, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.

The Pittsburg Police Department, in conjunction with the Contra Costa County Office of Emergency Services and Contra Costa County Consolidated Fire Department, is sponsoring Emergency Preparedness classes for residents of the Pittsburg community.

CERT training will include 20 hours of instruction over a 7 week period:

  • Disaster Preparedness and Terrorism
  • Fire Safety
  • Disaster Medical Operations
  • Light Search and Rescue
  • CERT Organization and Disaster Psychology
  • Final Simulated Disaster Exercise
