Pittsburg Police to Host its First Citizens Police Academy

by ECT

The Pittsburg Police Department has announced it will be hosting its first-ever Citizens Police Academy.

This is a nine-week Academy which will further the Department’s goal of expanding the philosophies of community oriented policing, transparency, and help better educate citizens and businesses about the police department’s functions and capabilities.

The Academy will provide participants with a unique inside look at the Pittsburg Police Department, and help increase the level of trust, respect and understanding between the police department and our community.

Each session will be taught by a member of the Department who have special expertise and real-life experience in the respective subject matter being taught. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet with the Police Chief and members of the command staff, and provide an opportunity ask questions, discuss issues and concerns, and learn some of the things Pittsburg police officers do as part of their regular duties.

About the Citizen’s Police Academy:

The Citizen’s Police Academy provides community members with an inside look at the Pittsburg Police Department. While participating in the Academy, students will be introduced to a variety of topics as described in the Spring 2015 Citizen’s Police Academy Schedule.

The nine-week Academy is designed to give citizens an overview of the police department’s function and operational procedures. The curriculum and teachings are real examples of police methodology and casework; however, are not intended to train students as police officers.

Academy classes will be taught by police executives as well as veteran police officers. Students will have the opportunity to meet with the Chief of Police as well as other department staff members. Students are encouraged to ask questions and to express ideas and concerns to the instructors.
