by ECT

At roughly 2:45 pm Tuesday, Pittsburg police shot a wanted felon in the leg after the suspect removed a firearm from his waistband and brandished it at the office.

According to Captain Ron Raman, officers received information that a wanted felon was in the area of Andrew Avenue and N. Parkside Drive.  The suspect was considered armed and dangerous and was wanted for a Parole Violation.

Captain Raman highlighted that officers were aware of the suspect’s background which included arrests and convictions for manslaughter, carjacking, assault with deadly weapon, human trafficking and drug related charges.  The suspect has also been in an out of prison since 1999.

At 2:45pm today, a Pittsburg Police officer located the suspect on Andrew Avenue just south of N. Parkside Drive.

According to police,  the suspect was uncooperative and evasive where he fled from an officer.  The officer then attempted to detain the suspect by deploying his taser which had no effect.  The suspect then removed a firearm from his waistband and brandished it at the officer.

Raman says an officer was forced to fire one shot at the suspect striking him in the upper leg area.  The suspect was detained and transported to a local hospital where he is expected to be released this evening.

The suspect’s firearm was recovered on scene.  The officer involved in this incident is a 15 year veteran with the Pittsburg Police Department.

This incident is being investigated jointly with the Pittsburg Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office.  Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

No further information was provided by Pittsburg Police.

Great work Pittsburg PD, I am glad no officers were injured in this ordeal. Returning to prison will not be anything new for the perp.
