The Pittsburg Police Department Friday released the name of the man involved in the March 18, 2022 officer involved shooting on Redwood Street as 28-year-old Blake Hernandez, a resident of Pittsburg.

We are releasing officers’ body worn camera footage of the incident as part of our continuing effort to foster transparency and trust with our community. This Critical Incident Video contains a small portions of the footage from the incident. All of the officers on the scene were equipped with body worn cameras. The full video of this incident will be released on the city’s website when the investigative process allows. As we noted in the video, none of the footage we have depicts Mr. Hernandez’s actions during the shooting.
The officer involved in the incident is Corporal Kyle Dickson. Corporal Dickson is assigned to our Patrol Bureau. He is also a member of our tactical team. He has been a police officer for over nine years and has been a Pittsburg Police Officer for six years.
The Contra Costa County Officer Involved Incident Protocol has been enacted and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office will be completing an independent investigation into this incident. The Pittsburg Police Department’s independent outside investigator is also conducting an independent investigation of the incident pursuant to department policy.
On March 23, 2022, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office reviewed this incident and filed one count of attempt murder with enhancements, one count of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, and one count of negligent discharge of a firearm. Hernandez remains in custody with a $1,500,000 bail.
