Over the weekend, the Pittsburg Police Department through its Police Activities League hosted its Fishin’ With a Cop event at Buchanan Park. Over the weekend, approximately 70 families participated.

“There is no greater community policing activity than getting our youth to come out and partner up with police officers and teaching them some fishing skills and teaching them how to fish,” said Chief Brian Addington who said approximately 50 fish were caught.

This was the second annual event which they were happy to host as Contra Costa County was now in the Orange Tier and be able to social distance.

Addington appreciated the interaction between officers and the community.

“It’s been outstanding, I can’t tell you how many people not only thanked us and how they appreciate us, they are praying for us. This is a tough time in our community and our nation right now but we really felt the love of the community this weekend,” said Addington. “To be able to come out here and interact with the youth in this community has been tremendous.”

According to police, several Antioch families also attended and they were happy to accommodate.
