Pittsburg Police Arrest Two in Connection With Fatal Shooting of Antioch Man

by ECT

Within 30 hours of this shooting, Pittsburg Police Department Detectives located and arrested the suspects responsible for the killing of Jabbar Mahmood.

Early Wednesday morning, shortly after 3:15 A.M., officers responded to the area of El Dorado Drive and Shasta Circle in regards to a report of a vehicle collision. As officers arrived to the area, they found the car had collided with a telephone pole and several parked cars. The driver, identified as Jabbar Mahmood 19 year-old resident of Antioch, suffered from a gunshot wound to the upper torso and died at the scene.

The Pittsburg Police Department Investigations Division responded to the scene and took over the investigation. It was learned, Mahmood drove to the house in the 100 block of El Dorado Drive to enlist the services of a 23 year-old woman who has been working as a prostitute. Prior to Mahmood arriving at the location, the suspect vehicle arrived and parked across the street, with the occupant remaining inside. This man was identified as the boyfriend/pimp of the 23 year-old woman. The man watched as the Mahmood arrived, parked and went inside the house. The man’s role was to act as protection for the woman should anything go wrong. We do not believe Mahmood was aware of his presence and does not appear Mahmood or the woman had engaged in prostitution prior to this.

Mahmood was inside the location for about 10 minutes when he and the woman got into an argument over the transaction and the woman walked outside to the suspect vehicle. A short time later, Mahmood walked outside and got into his car, still unaware of the suspect vehicle. The suspect, now aware of the argument that had just occurred, walked up to the Mahmood and shot him while he was seated inside the car. Then Mahmood attempted to drive off but ultimately crashed.

Yesterday, detectives identified the responsibles in the shooting of Mahmood. Hours after the shooting, detectives located and arrested the woman, identified as Alberta Stewart 23 years-old, who Mahmood met at the house. Through additional investigation, detectives were able to identify the shooter as Charles Daniels, 33 year-old resident of Antioch.

Early this morning, the Pittsburg Police Department tactical team, along with the detectives, served a search and arrest warrant at Daniels’ house in the 100 block of Lake Drive in Antioch. Both Daniels and Stewart have been booked and charged with homicide. Both are being held at the Martinez Detention Facility.

This case will be presented to the Contra Costa County District Attorney within the coming days.

Okay, Ms. Becton. This was obviously a ” lying in wait” crime. A setup. Lure the young man in and start an argument over the money. So either they were going to rob him, or they were going to rob him AND hurt him. A set up! 1st degree murder for sure.
