Pittsburg Moves Active Transportation Plan is Now Available for Public Review

by ECT

The Pittsburg Moves Active Transportation Plan envisions Pittsburg as the most bicycle and pedestrian friendly community in East Contra Costa County. It also aims to eliminate bicycle and pedestrian deaths in the city by the year 2040.

To realize this vision, the Plan calls for:

  1. emphasizing land use patterns and development projects that promote walking and bicycling;
  2. creating a walking and bicycling network that enhances safety, access, comfort, and convenience for everyone;
  3. maintaining the network so that it is attractive, comfortable, and free of hazards; and
  4. 4) implementing a range of education, encouragement, enforcement, and evaluation programs that support walking and bicycling.

The Plan also recommends over 250 bicycle and pedestrian improvement projects throughout the city and provides a comprehensive crosswalk policy to guide the City of Pittsburg in marking and enhancing crosswalks. The Plan is accompanied by a proposed Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND) discussing the potential environmental impacts associated with the Plan’s implementation.

Written public comments on the Pittsburg Moves Active Transportation Plan and IS/MND will be accepted during the public review period, beginning on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, and continuing through Thursday, September 24, 2020. All comments on the Plan and IS/MND must be received no later than 5:00 pm, on September 24, 2020.

The Plan and IS/MND can be downloaded online at: http://www.ci.pittsburg.ca.us/walkbikepittsburg.

Hardcopies are currently not available at Pittsburg City Hall and the Pittsburg Library due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) related closures. If the facilities are opened sometime during the public comment period stated above, the City of Pittsburg will make hardcopies available for public review at each facility.

Special arrangements may also be made to view hard copies by contacting Hector Rojas, Senior Planner at (925) 252-4043 or [email protected].

As for people who don’t ride bicycles, and would like some exercise, how about building some PICKLEBALL courts in Pittsburg?

Teenagers to 80-year-olds like pickle ball as is evidenced at the Willow Pass pickle ball courts in Concord, which is where we have to go to play.

Please include pickle ball courts in your planning for the city, possibly to go in at the defunct golf course!

Just look who the current Pittsburg city council (and mayor) are comprised of! Those people have no idea what they’re doing! There were some really good people running for office, but for some stupid reason, the current bunch got elected. Strange!

Yeah. Those left over I-Talians sure knew how to run a city. Back when Pittsburg was the place in East County to avoid. Sure is a tragedy that the NEW residents of Pittsburg decided that there was a new city to be had that was inclusive and much more inviting.
