by ECT

The Pittsburg Police Department announced Wednesday the arrest of a man and his mother for murder and accessory for murder.

According to Captain Ron Raman, the arrest comes after a May 29 call where Pittsburg Police officers responded to a medical call at a residence in the 1800 hundred block of Ventura Drive.

Raman says the victim, a 23 year old female, was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased that evening.  Information provided to officers at the time of this incident by was misleading and indicated that the victims injuries were self-inflicted.

Police say that after the initial investigation which included a preliminary autopsy examination, evidence indicated the victim died as a result of manual strangulation.  Detectives began to investigate this incident as a homicide and were able to identify the victims husband, Vaibhav Bhardwaj, as the responsible.  The victim’s mother in law, Manju Sharma,  was also identified as an active participant in this incident.

Raman says after the investigation was completed, a search warrant was served at their residence on Monday November 21st.  Both suspects were located and taken into custody for murder and accessory to murder respectively.

This case was reviewed and filed by the District Attorney’s Office today.
