Pittsburg: Female Dies After Crash on E. Leland Road

Pittsburg Police say a 69-year-old female of Pittsburg died after a three vehicle accident at E. Leland Road and Harbor Street Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred just after 2:00 pm Wednesday, a Pittsburg police officer observed smoke coming from the intersection of E. Leland Road and Harbor Street.

According to Captain Ron Raman, an officer approached the intersection when he noticed a multi-vehicle collision had just occurred, additional resources including medical assistance was summoned. There were three vehicles involved in this collision (Chevrolet Truck – 1 occupant, Honda Van – 5 occupants, and a Toyota Sedan -2 occupants) and a total of (4) individuals transported to area hospitals and (2) additional people who declined further medical treatment.

The officer earned through the investigation that Honda was stopped at a red signal light facing westbound in the number two lane of traffic on E. Leland Road.  The Toyota was alongside of the Honda, in the right turn lane, also stopped at a red light preparing to turn right onto northbound Harbor Street. The driver of the Chevrolet, which was traveling westbound on E. Leland Road failed to stop at the light and collided with the Honda and Toyota.  The impact pushed the Honda into the middle of the intersection.

Captain Raman stated four individuals were transported to the hospital for injuries ranging from major leg injuries to complaint of pain.  One of the occupants of the Honda, 69 year old female adult and resident of Pittsburg, was transported to a local hospital as a medical precaution for minor stomach pain.  She was alert and mobile at the scene of the collision.  She died several hours later at the hospital from internal injuries as result of the collision.

All drivers in this collision were licensed, insured, and were cooperative with the investigation. None of the drivers exhibited signs of intoxication on scene.

The Pittsburg Police Fatal Collision Response Team was notified and is investigating this collision.  They will provide more information as it becomes available.

The cause of this collision is currently being investigated.
