Pittsburg Detective Wins Recognition for Crime Victims’ Rights Week

by ECT

The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office selects individuals within the County who have displayed exemplary service to victims of crime, and this year, Pittsburg Police Detective Ed Sanchez is among the group receiving recognition for their work on behalf of crime victims.

According to a statement from the District Attorney’s Office statement, Detective Sanchez was selected for his dedication and commitment to the community he serves; his work has gone “above and beyond the call of duty.”

The honor is part of a national commemoration of Crime Victims’ Rights Week. Established by the U.S. Department of Justice in 1981, Crime Victims’ Rights Week is an opportunity for communities, crime victims and their loved ones, as well as professionals who serve victims, to join together and reflect on the progress they’ve made in defending victims’ rights. Two ceremonies are planned in April to honor the award winners.

Detective Sanchez is a native of Mexico who has been a member of the Pittsburg Police Department since 1996. As the Department’s Crime Scene Investigator, Detective Sanchez is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. He is often called in the middle of the night to respond and process major crime scenes. Anyone who has watched television shows like CSI knows just how important crime scene processing is to a case. Detective Sanchez’s methodical work has ensured that suspects are identified and prosecuted, so that crime victims and their families can hopefully have some sense of closure.

This year’s National Crime Victims’ Rights theme is “Serving Victims. Building Trust. Restoring Hope.” Police Chief Brian Addington said that the theme, “underscores the importance of the type of work Detective Sanchez does, and why he is so committed to doing it.”

Detective Sanchez and other honorees will be recognized at the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors meeting on at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, and at the District Attorney’s Recognition Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 15.
