Pittsburg: Blown Transformer Shoots Flames Out from Underground Inside Apartment Complex

At roughly 7:50 pm Sunday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a commercial structure fire at the Crestview Apartments on Crestview Lane off W. Leland Lane in Pittsburg. The incident was located in the far east portion of the complex backing up to the shopping center along Railroad. A large ball of fire was coming from underground which was believed to be a blown transformer.

PG&E had told CONFIRE not to put any water on the flames so CONFIRE took precautionary measures in case window blew the flames into nearby trees and vegetation as well as ensuring non of the apartment buildings caught fire.

CONFIRE and PG&E were on the scene for 3-hours and 12-minutes.

That happened on our street years ago. PG&E worked all night digging it up and replacing it but never told us why. We supposed an over load of some kind.
