Pittsburg: 13-Year-Old in Crosswalk Killed After Being Struck by Vehicle

by ECT

Just before 6:00 pm Sunday, Pittsburg Police officers responded to an auto vs. pedestrian collision at the intersection of Harbor Street and  School Street.

A 13 year-old girl (Student at Martin Luther King Jr.) was crossing the street with a group of friends when she was hit by a vehicle. The driver stopped and is being cooperative. The girl was transported to the hospital in grave condition and sadly died from injuries as a result of the collision .

The victim was walking W/B on School Street in a marked crosswalk at Harbor Street.  Based on our initial investigation it appears that driver of the vehicle had a green light as she travelled N/B on Harbor Street.  This was a tragic collision that resulted in the loss of life of a 13 year old.

Investigators from our major collision team are investigating this collision and more information will be provided as it becomes available.  Impairment does not appear to be a factor in this collision.

I am out of the office today, Captain Perry will be able to provide more information as it becomes available.  He can also be reached at (925) 252-4811

So sorry to here this, praying for her family, that the Lord give them strength. It’s so dangerous crossing the streets on harbor and school street. The cars are always speeding on these streets. My daughter attends the high school and I watch her every morning cross the street. Before crossing she press the button to alert the cars that someone is crossing and majority of the time the cars continue without stopping. I pray every morning while watching my daughter walk across the street, that she makes it safely. Keeping family in my prayers??
