Pittburg PD Update (9:45 pm)
Early this evening, just prior to 6:30 PM, Pittsburg Police Officers responded to a vehicle collision on southbound Loveridge Road south of State Route 4. When officers arrived, they found a single vehicle had collided with a tree located on the west side of southbound lanes of Loveridge Road. The force of the collision caused the driver, and only occupant of the vehicle, to be ejected from the vehicle. Officers and medical personnel provided medical attention to the driver. Unfortunately, the driver was later pronounced deceased at the scene. It is unknown at this time if impairment or distracted driving were factors in the collision.
The Pittsburg Police Department Fatal Collision Response Team responded and took over the investigation. It was determined the driver of the vehicle was traveling south on Loveridge Road. For unknown reasons at this time, the vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with a tree located on the west shoulder of the roadway. The identification of the driver is being withheld pending notification to the family.
This investigation remains active and officers are examining the city’s video surveillance system that may have captured the incident. It is unknown at this time if this vehicle is related to any other incident that may have occurred prior to the collision.
Loveridge Road will be closed for a period of time.
We estimate the roadway will reopen prior to the morning commute.
