At roughly 9:30 am Thursday morning, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews responded to a reported residential structure fire on Whitetail Dr. in Antioch.

According to radio traffic, nobody was home at the time and it appears the circuit box on the side of the home had been bypassed. Upon entry to the home, fire crews quickly called for PG&E, Antioch Police, and an investigator to the scene after the house appeared to be a grow house for marijuana.

Fire crews quickly put out a small fire in the garage, but smoke filled the home as well as the neighborhood with the smell of marijuana in the air.

According to emergency crews on scene, it was one of the most elaborate grow set-ups they had ever seen and plants were about a month away from production.

Neighbors stated that the home was a rental and two-men would frequently visit the home but did not live there and lights were never on.

No further details were provided as Antioch Police are currently investigating the home.

Very sad that this is occuring in my neighborhood and we had no idea this was going on. I hope they catch these guys and get them out of the city

Maybe they should make the landlord responsible, maybe that would help prevent this stuff.

Someone’s going to be a little upset when they go back “home.”

Four fire engines…… it was one house ….. then they complain they are under staffed and need more fire houses and staff…..

Miss Stake,
You are foolish if you think 4 engines at a residential fire is overkill. If it were your home with your family inside you would be screaming for even a greater response.

Thanks for lowering the bar on stupid comments. At least you have that going for you.
